John Harris - Brown Bag Lunch talk
FROME CREATIVE NETWORK I am really pleased that the Brown Bag Lunches organised by Frome Creative Network are proving so popular. Thanks Fay for the great write up in the List this month. We are oversubscribed for the next one on Communication with John Harris as we have more than thirty people wanting to join in, but we have solved the problem with the help of the Black Swan Arts administrators and we will be meeting in the main gallery instead of the workshop. Firstly, I would like to ask you to please confirm by e-mail if you are definitely coming? Several people had signed up for all three but were unable to attend and some had not signed up but did attend, so we need to know if you are planning to come to the next one because we really cannot accommodate more than 30 people. Secondly, these talks were designed to test the market. We think you will agree that there is a demand, the question is how to fund them as we need to cover the cost of materials, venues and possibly speakers. There are several options that we are investigating such as community grants, business sponsorship and subscription. We know from Jim’s talk last week that cost could be a barrier to attending, this has been shown with Creative Bath losing up to half their members because they now have joining fees of £25.00. We don’t want that to happen, we feel that having gained your support but lost Somerset grant funding for the arts we need to work in a more collaborative way for everyone to benefit, so please bring any creative ideas and solutions. We have some really good speakers lined up and thanks to conversations at the previous Brown Bag Lunches some new people have volunteered their time to organise another series of 3 talks, so watch this space and thank you Freya and Rosie. In the meantime, until we come up with a creative solution with your help, for John’s talk we would please like to ask for a donation of £2.00 each to cover the venue and publicity. This is less than the price of a cappuccino but we will provide instant coffee or tea! Looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday, February 1st between 12:00 and 2:00pm for FOOD - CHAIRS – NATTER in the Black Swan Arts Main Gallery Frome Creative Network Team PS: we are following a Black Swan Arts meeting and Luke Wilde hopes to join us and give a brief update of their new plans for this year.
