Sarah Truscott - Weaver
Hand weaver - I have been hand-spinning textile yarns since 1988 and began handloom weaving in 1993. I studied Photography, Contemporary Dance and Art Design before taking up weaving as a profession, completing a Diploma in Handlooom Weaving at Bradford and Ilkley College in 1996 whilst based and weaving in London and began exhibiting my work shortly afterwards. I decided to specialise in rug making following a series of rug commissions. This work demonstrated the potential to influence interiors with individually designed floor coverings. I became fascinated with the idea of creating artistic pieces which people could walk on, lie on, hang on a wall and simply enjoy in an every day sense. Each rug is individually designed and is usually made to commission to suit the individual requirements of the customer. I also weave one-off scarves and wall-hangings which give greater freedom within the woven structure. My work can be seen at Somerset Art Weeks, Frome Open Studios and Cloth Road (Bradford-on-Avon) art trails and at various galleries and exhibitions or by visiting my workshop in Frome, Somerset.
